GTFO: February Hike

For February's hike, we'll be hitting up the Lower Arroyo Seco Trail in South Pasadena. It's a beginner-friendly trail with lots of pretty historic bridges.

We'll meet in the parking lot for the San Pascual Stables, which is just before the entrance to the hike. Use street parking nearby though, since that parking is for the stables.

Bring sunscreen, water, and any snacks you may want. Please try to be on time, since it'll be hard to catch up 💜

Here's the address to put in your GPS:
221 San Pascual Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030

And here's the AllTrails link if you want to learn more about the hike:

GTFO: Claremont Wilderness Hike

Extending this invite from a group that a few of you have previously hiked with (the Doghaus group) [at the Urban Stairs Hike].

Led by Sonja and Tony, this California winter hike at Claremont Wilderness Park will take place on Sunday, February 22nd. It's worth the early drive for this spectacular five-mile hike, led by DHRC ambassadors Sonja and Tony. Expect views of Los Angeles, the San Gabriel Mountains, and even some early wildflowers! 🌼

Date: Sunday, February 22, 2026
Time: Meet 8:00am (hike starts promptly at 8:30am)
Look for hosts in the yellow shirts.

Location: Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, 4031 N Mills Ave, Claremont (map)
Hike stats: 5 MILES!, 900ft elevation gain (moderately steep), ~3 hours.

Leashed dogs are welcome. No shade. Expect some mud in the event of recent rains. Claremont is an hour drive from Echo Park, and there's a PARKING FEE, so CARPOOLING IS RECOMMENDED! Rain or shine, we'll be there!

Don't forget: Water, hat, sunblock, hiking shoes, snacks, layers.
Parking: $9 per car. This is a popular hike, so expect to circle for parking. Great opportunity for a carpool!

AI in Production LA

A monthly gathering for developers and founders shipping real AI applications. No hype—just practitioners sharing what's actually working.

Why this exists

Once you move past the demo stage, AI gets hard. Models hallucinate. Costs spiral. Security becomes non-negotiable. Compliance requirements multiply. And there's no playbook.

This meetup is for people navigating those problems right now. Whether you're an indie hacker shipping your first agent, a startup founder dealing with enterprise requirements, or an engineer wrangling LLMs at work—you'll find your people here.

Pitch, Train or Demo

Want to share something with the group? We have limited slots each month. Please select an option when you RSVP for the event at: https://aiprod.live/

Demystifying Your Credit Score

Unfortunately, in our capitalistic society, credit scores are being used more and more to determine access—even to things like rental housing.

To help people deal with this barrier I will be teaching how credit scores are calculated, what impacts them most, and how to read your own credit profile with confidence. We’ll walk through practical, realistic strategies to improve your score over time—no gimmicks or quick fixes.

You’ll leave with a clear action plan and a better understanding of how to build and protect your credit moving forward.

Light snacks will be provided

Beat Procrastination and Creative Blocks

You know that state of mind where you forget about time and space and become completely focused on whatever you’re working on? That's called the FLOW, and it feels great but can be difficult to achieve consistently on your own. Through the power of mono-tasking, rituals, body doubling, and power breaks, we’ll reach the FLOW together, and you’ll be surprised by what you’ll have gotten done at the end of the day. So how does it work? We’ll have a series of 50-minute bursts of focused, mono-tasking work. Every burst will be separated by quick 10-minute breaks. After 2 bursts, we’ll have a longer break, where we’ll share a meal (remember to bring your own lunch) and socialize before diving into the last two bursts. Switching off notifications, focusing on a single task at a time, being surrounded by people doing the same, and not keeping track of time will help you reach the FLOW. Essentially, getting days' worth of work done in just four hours. Let's get those procrastinated tasks done and beat creative blocks TOGETHER! Here is what our session will look like: 10:30 - 10:45: introduction 10:45 - 11:35: first rush 11:35 - 11:45: short break 11:45 - 12:35: second rush 12:35 - 01:05: lunch break 01:05 - 01:55: third rush 01:55 - 02:05: short break 02:05 - 02:55: last rush 02:55 - 03:10: outro You are welcome to join for just one rush or stay for the whole session; we just ask you to enter or leave the room only during breaks to prevent distraction for the other participants.

Home Ownership for the Rest of Us

Your resume might not reflect a conventional career path, but it's given you a fulfilling life in the Bay. Now that you're ready to put down roots, you wonder if buying your own home is within reach. Do I need to earn more to qualify for a better loan? Will my income be consistent to support this mortgage?

Veteran entrepreneur Mae Chan was told by mortgage brokers it would be nearly impossible as a self-employed, single-income household to qualify for a loan. Then she met Helena Jones-Kim, who encouraged Mae to just begin where she was and take it one step at a time. With Helena's tireless encouragement, Mae bought her first property in 2024 that she's now developed to generate multiple sources of business revenue.

If home ownership is your dream and you want support for making that dream come true, Helena and Mae will lay out the steps. You'll leave the workshop clear on your one next step so you can start where you are too.

About the presenters:
Mae Chan coaches visionary entrepreneurs and intrapreneurial executives to clarify their unique offering and operationalize it from alignment with their life’s purpose and income goals. Mae is is a member at Groundfloor Oakland and leads Entrepreneur Club. https://www.reallifeoakland.com/

Helena M. Jones offers trusted support for real estate sales, purchases, and investments, as well as concrete financial guidance in creating wealth through real estate. She is currently the Chairman of the Board for SF African American Chamber of Commerce. https://www.helenajoneskim.com/

Arts & Crafts Supply Swap

Have gently used or unused creative supplies you’re not reaching for? Let’s recirculate them.

I’m hosting a community craft and paper supply swap — an easy, low-pressure way to share resources, reduce waste, and spark new ideas.

WHAT TO BRING:
Notebooks (spiral, composition, Moleskines — partially used is okay)
Journals & planners
Loose paper, specialty paper, cardstock
Sticky notes & page flags
Washi tape
Stickers & sticker sheets
Markers (highlighters, brush pens, dry erase, permanent)
Colored pencils, pens, fineliners
Calligraphy supplies
Scrapbooking & collage materials
Rubber stamps & ink pads
Craft punches & scissors
Envelopes, folders, organization supplies
Lightly used art or classroom supplies
If it’s clean, usable, and in good condition, it’s welcome.

HOW IT WORKS:
Bring what you’d like to pass along
Browse and take what inspires you
Stay and connect with fellow creatives

No need to bring something to participate — this is about sharing abundance and reducing waste.

I’m currently planning donations for leftover supplies — East Bay Depot For Creative Reuse is one great option, and I’d love your recommendations for other youth-serving organizations in Oakland that could benefit!

Let’s clear our shelves and keep good supplies in circulation.

Create Before 8:00

✨ Create Before 8:00 ✨
A Midweek Creative Reset
Wednesday, February 25th

End your Wednesday the way your soul actually needs—creating, connecting, and slowing down.

“Create Before 8:00” is a cozy, come-as-you-are creative night designed to help you shake off the week, tap into your imagination, and reconnect—with yourself and your community.

Wander through different creative stations at your own pace:
🎨 Vision boarding your next chapter
🖌 Watercolor painting & free expression
🖍 Coloring pages, crayons, markers & colored pencils
🔮 Tarot for reflection and insight
🍪 Cookie decorating (because creativity should taste good too)

We’ll also have a collaborative poster paper wall—a shared space where everyone adds a little piece of themselves throughout the night.

Immerse yourself in a soft, dreamlike atmosphere with an Alice in Wonderland backdrop and playful props that spark curiosity and imagination.

Pull an affirmation card created by me to ground your energy.

✨ This is not about being “good” at art.
✨ This is about expression, release, and play.

Children are welcome, because creativity is for everyone.

Come solo or bring a friend. Stay for a little or the whole time. There’s no right way to experience this—just follow what feels good.

Let this be your midweek reset.
Let this be your space to create.

— Mitzy 💫

Together, we'll navigate through each type, uncovering the motivations and fears that shape behaviors and delving into practical strategies for personal growth.

New Moon Ritual with the Witch and Healer Collective

The New Moon in Aries on April 17th marks the beginning of a new moon cycle. Aries is the first sign, the leader, the ram. This is a moment of beginning, especially for the self.

Join The Witch and Healer Collective for a new moon ritual to work with this potent cosmic moment. Through reflection, energy work, and intentional spell work, we will cut what is no longer serving us (and our inner children) and make room for the spark of newness through bold Aries-led declarations and mantras. Each participant will also make their own intuitive and ancestral-connected herbal tea.

All are welcome, whether you’re a seasoned witch or a curious newcomer who wants to build intentional community and carve out real time for self-work.

Founders Club: Sunday Coffee Chat

Our Founders Club Sunday Coffee Meetup is focussed on accountability and sharing challenges! All are welcome, from current founders to anyone curious about entrepreneurship! We meet every Sunday to give quick updates on our projects, progress, and struggles, then dive into brainstorming solutions together and general catchups. We like to say it's like a little dose of ‘group startup therapy’ every week! Come hang out and support your fellow founders. See you on Sunday!

Potluck: Sunday Ritual

Bringing people together is at the heart of Groundfloor, and there are few better ways to do that than through cuisine. Whether simple or extraordinary, food creates shared experiences and lasting memories! We can't wait to see your smiling face and whatever you buy, cook, bake, or improvise.

Click on the link below to find some suggestions and let us know what you'll be bringing.

While advance planning is grand, last minute registrations are also most welcome.

Oh, and don’t forget to bring containers for leftovers so you can enjoy a great meal or two in the coming days.

Book Club: Broken Country

Join us for a gripping discussion of Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall. This powerful novel explores love, loss, and resilience against the backdrop of a fractured landscape, weaving together intimate human stories with larger questions about belonging and survival. Come ready to dive into Hall's evocative storytelling as we discuss themes of identity, connection, and what it means to find home in broken places. Whether you're drawn to literary fiction or stories that explore the human condition, join us for what promises to be a moving and thought-provoking conversation! All readers welcome!

Board Game Club: Blood on the Clocktower

First Tuesdays Board Game Club features Blood on the Clocktower: an award-winning social deduction game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception for up to fifteen daring players led by a devious storyteller. Each month we have food and drink on hand - but you're always welcome to bring your own - don't rely on us for your dinner. :)

‼️ Blood on the Clocktower can take *three* hours to run, so please don’t make other plans for your evening - your presence will be required for the entirety of the game. Pizza will be provided.

‼️ We encourage players to watch this 10 minute introduction video on the rules ahead of the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-aZP47Nm9g

‼️ Even more info & play guides: BotC website https://bloodontheclocktower.com

Each player receives either a ‘good’ or ‘evil’ token with their unique character and special ability on it. Good players share information to solve the mystery whilst evil players lie about who they are and what they know. The good team wins if they can piece together their knowledge, trust each other, and vote to execute the demon. The evil team wins if the demon can sow distrust, evade detection, and wipe out the village.

Being dead doesn’t remove you from the game, you can still discuss with fellow players, win (or lose!) with your team, and have one final ‘ghost’ vote to use before the end of the game. Sometimes it’s actually useful to be dead rather than alive!

Board (and Card!) Game Club Night

First Tuesdays Board Game Club is hosting board games and card games night! We will play a mix of "party" games - casual, social games that are quick to learn and easy to play as well as "strategy" games for those that want a little more friendly competition in their life. We invite and encourage members to bring games they own with them for the evening!

For those curious, here are some examples of "party games": Codenames, Monikers, Hues & Cues, and Things in Rings.

For "strategy games", some examples are Azul, Camel Up, Quacks of Quedlinburg, and member provided games.
(Please note we encourage members to bring games that are not too complicated to learn and can be completed in about 90-120 minutes. We love a good game of Arcs or Roots, and by joining the community you'll find members who want to play those sorts of games with you!)

Poker Night

Join us for a beginners-friendly poker game at Groundfloor. Come to learn more about poker or take a shot at the prize pool. Players of all levels are welcome to join.

If you're less experienced come 20 minutes before the event for a quick lesson on how to play poker and common strategies.

We will be playing 5 cards Texas Hold'em in a tournament configuration. Players can only buy back in if they lose all their chips and within the first hour of the game. The buy-in is $20 and will be sent to Benj via Venmo. Blinds will rise throughout the night to keep the gaming progressing. Top 3 players payout (50%, 30%, 10%). The remaining 10% goes towards event snacks and drinks.

StorySkills

This hands-on, interactive seminar will provide a story-structure to help organize your thoughts for impact.

Writing Circle

The writer's circle is a group of Groundfloor members who convene on the 2nd Tuesday of the month for creative writing and connection. In addition to our monthly meet-ups we host casual drop in's throughout the month, so keep an eye on the chats. Whether you're working on a manuscript, writing for work, or new to writing and looking for creative inspiration, we'd love you to join us! No previous writing experience necessary. All are welcome.

Salon 42 SF

We meet to collaboratively explore ideas from art to science to philosophy to learn about the topic and each other.

Our intent is to create a free, inclusive, and friendly space for connection and community based on ideas, in an environment that prioritizes listening and openness to a wide range of perspectives.

How does it work?
We choose a topic, share optional resources (video/articles/podcasts, etc.) and discussion questions in advance to establish a shared context, and then have a lightly moderated discussion along with potluck-style drinks and snacks. Expect some time to socialize before and after the official discussion.

The Lab

Welcome to “The Lab” — focused work time: together!

Work on your own projects with community support.

We begin each Lab with a quick round of intros. Each member will set goals for their work time. You can ask for assistance from the group if you need help with an idea or run your ideas past the group etc.

Then, get working on your stated goals - your will have the energy, accountability, and quiet buzz of everyone else doing it together.

At the end, we circle back to share how it went, celebrate wins, and wrap up the morning. You did it!

The Lab is simple: show up, set your goals, get your work done, and cheer each other on.

It’s amazing how much more you can do when you’re working separately — but together.

AI Club

AI Club is a weekly drop-in group with a monthly topic session and quarterly workshop. Weekly drop-in looks like show and tell + group problem solving or focused AI work time. The topics are member driven! We are capturing member use cases and trying to document best practices and learn new tools and workflows together in this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-z_I24TyPOvxVnZlSgB3pH-hFS6wkw1o1JanbgPbv30/edit?usp=drivesdk

Book Club - Children of Ash and Elm [nonfiction!]

Our February book is a deep history of the Vikings (a nonfiction pivot for book club!). Note: you do not need to have finished any book to come to book club! We will no doubt spiral into related topics quickly.

The Viking Age - between 750 and 1050 - saw an unprecedented expansion of the Scandinavian peoples. As traders and raiders, explorers and colonists, they reshaped the world between eastern North America and the Asian steppe. For a millennium, though, their history has largely been filtered through the writings of their victims. Based on the latest archaeological and textual evidence, Children of Ash and Elm tells the story of the Vikings on their own terms: their politics, their cosmology, their art and culture. From Björn Ironside, who led an expedition to sack Rome, to Gudrid Thorbjarnardóttir, the most travelled woman in the world, Price shows us the real Vikings, not the caricatures they have become in popular culture and history.
