In Person Tasting With tercero wines owner and winemaker Larry Schaffer

This is going to be a very special event!

tercero wines is the brainchild of Larry Schaffer, who is the owner and winemaker. Larry did not start out in the wine industry – most who are in it do not – but his past has led him to exactly where he is and should be. And Larry definitely has a different and unique outlook on the wine world and on communicating about wine with all of his customers, regardless of knowledge or experience.

tercero wines concentrates on small lot, hand crafted wines using grapes exclusively from leading Santa Barbara County vineyards and works with grapes from nearly every AVA within the county. Though his main concentration is working with rhone varieties, Larry remains curious and therefore also works with pinot noir, gewurztraminer, cabernet franc, and a few other fun and interesting grapes. And therein lies the beauty of Santa Barbara County.

Book Launch for Mona Shomali’s Water Mamas

Join us to celebrate the launch of Groundfloor member Mona Shomali’s new book WATER MAMAS!

This event is free and open to the public.

The Amazon is dying. What price is too high to save it?

In a not-so-distant future, the Earth's lungs are failing. A United Nations representative, Afa, finds herself deep in the parched heart of the Amazon, facing the ultimate ethical dilemma. Her mission: secure consent from indigenous tribes to start a rain seeding program. Rain cloud technology promises to reverse the ravages of climate change, to breathe life back into the global rainforests.

But here, in the ancient heart of their lands, consent is not merely a formality; it's enshrined in human rights law. Her initial confidence crumbles in Guyana, where the very idea of man-made rain strikes at the core of Indigenous mythology and spirituality. It’s a clash of worlds—Western science versus ancestral wisdom—with the fate of the global climate hanging precariously in the balance.

Amidst this complex crisis, Afa's journey becomes intensely personal. Navigating the pressures of her career and the complexities of an unexpected romance, she is forced to confront what she truly believes is right for her own life.

This is more than a story of technology versus tradition. It’s a gripping exploration of climate crisis, social justice, and the profound power of belief. Follow Mona Shomali as she masterfully weaves together her expertise in Indigenous Human Rights and Environmental Science, challenging us to consider what it means to make the "right" decision when the world is teetering on the edge.

Author bio: Mona Shomali is an Iranian American author and artist driven by a singular purpose: to explore how we navigate competing morals and worldviews. Her unique background, steeped in Indigenous Human Rights and Environmental Science, informs her brush and her prose.

Mona's journey, into the heart of the Amazon, started with her pivotal research work on the Sarayacu vs. Ecuador case in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. She worked on behalf of the Sarayacu tribe who was suing the state of Ecuador for illegally allowing drilling on their ancestral land without consent. Having lived and worked with tribes in Guyana and Brazil, Mona has dedicated her career to teaching and sharing the crucial juxtapositions and cultural challenges inherent in Western environmentalism.

As an adjunct faculty member at The New School, Pace, and NYU, her courses were focused on Indigenous human rights, resource conflicts in the Amazon, International environmental governance, and environmental justice. She also taught ecology at the New York Botanical Garden.

Now based in Oakland, California, Mona's figurative paintings, like those in her "Invisible Stains" collection (including Water Mamas's cover art), embody her commitment to these vital global conversations.

To read more of Mona’s writing, visit her substack at https://substack.com/@monashomali or visit her website: monashomali.com.

- Are mystified but curious about the basics of investing (aka making money while you sleep!)

About Jane!
This series is guided by my training as a certified healing-centered facilitator and my lived experience as a daughter of immigrants, a once long-time underpaid Oakland educator, and someone who has learned to invest, save, and spend in ways that feel both financially abundant and emotionally healing. I’ve been a “lazy investor” for 17 years now and continue to practice healing my own relationship with money. I’d love to support you in doing the same!

Whether or not investing feels aligned for you right now, I believe that having access to this knowledge is an equity issue – and one I am deeply passionate about addressing.

Heart of Us: Empathy Circle

We all need a space to be heard without judgment. Empathy Circle is that place.

Each month, we practice NVC-style empathy in small groups. One person shares something they're working through. Everyone else listens and reflects back what they hear—the feelings, the needs underneath. Not advice. Not solutions. Just presence.

What You Get from Receiving Empathy:
- Clarity about what you're actually feeling and needing
- Release of emotional tension
- The experience of being truly heard

What You Get from Offering Empathy:
- Deeper listening and attunement skills
- The chance to support someone meaningfully
- Authentic connection
- A break from your own head

What Happens
We start with a brief intro to the practice (no experience needed). Then we break into small groups where each person gets time to share while others practice empathy. We keep the group small so everyone gets attention.

Bring something real from your life. Bring your willingness to listen and be listened to.

About Me
I'm Shu. I've been teaching Nonviolent Communication for five years and I'm training in mediation and Internal Family Systems. I help people navigate conflicts and have the conversations they've been avoiding.

Business Club (Connect + Collab)

Business Club is a monthly networking and peer mentoring opportunity for all professionals and creatives to connect, exchange ideas, and problem solve over their morning cuppa. The meetings are facilitated by Sophie Davies to ensure everyone has equal time to introduce themselves and ask for what they need. How it works: After introductions the group breaks out into smaller groups to allow everyone to share “an ask” through peer mentoring with your makeshift advisory board. “Your ask” can be a specific idea that you need feedback on or a challenge you need help with. This work-related inclusive club is for everyone who understands that while we tend to work individually, we regularly encounter the same work challenges and believe that collectively we are stronger when we support each other and figure things out together. These gatherings are limited to 20 people, so please commit to staying for the duration of the session.

Inner Work Club: Meeting the Dragon Within (Working with Dragon Energy)

Inner Work Club: Working with Dragon Energy
A Shadow Work Workshop for the Wild, Wise, and Untamed Within
🗓 Wednesday, October 23 | 🕕 6:00–8:00 PM PT | 📍Lounge

Dragons appear in myths around the world—sometimes as fierce protectors of treasure, sometimes as chaotic destroyers, and often as ancient beings holding deep wisdom, power, and mystery.

In this experiential Inner Work Club workshop, we’ll explore the archetype of the dragon through the lens of shadow work, embodiment, and imagination.

Across cultures, dragons have symbolized different aspects of the psyche:
🐉 In Chinese mythology, dragons represent strength, prosperity, and cosmic balance.
🐉 In European legends, they are often seen as dangerous forces guarding hidden gold.
🐉 In many traditions, they are the threshold guardians between the conscious self and deeper inner power.

But what if the dragon is a part of you? A part you’ve learned to fear, suppress, or forget?

Through a mix of guided active imagination, somatic practice, thought-work, and shared reflection, we’ll begin to form a relationship with this inner force—whether it shows up as rage, power, passion, instinct, creativity, protection… or something else entirely.

This experience invites you to...

✨ Learn how the dragon archetype lives in myth and in the personal unconscious
✨ Embark on an inner journey to meet your own dragon / dragon energy
✨ Practice somatic tools for grounding and integrating strong internal experiences
✨ Share your process and insight in community as we witness each other with care

This circle is especially supportive for those who...

✨ Are curious about working with their Shadow in a mythic, imaginative way
✨ Feel disconnected from their inner fire, instinct, or personal power
✨ Are navigating transformation, upheaval, or personal thresholds
✨ Crave a space where they can safely explore bigness, rage, or desire

You don’t need to “believe” in dragons to meet one inside yourself.

Just bring a journal, something to write with, and your full, human self.
