Sips Happen: The Pop-Up Series

No set schedule. No cover. No pressure.

Just a pop-up when a pop-up feels right—like maybe on a midweek summer night, when the A/C is pumping and the puzzles are the stars.

The themes will change—oh yes, they will—and I’ve got plenty of surprises in store. This round will be mild-mannered in the best way: we’ll sip and piece our way to puzzle completion.

One night we might storytell, another we might brown bag it, or maybe the theme will be your favorite Trader Joe’s wines—WHO KNOWS! But one thing’s for sure: the sips will be happening.

First up: a curated flight from Naked Wines, an online community that backs independent winemakers and gives us access to bottles you won’t find on store shelves.

Whether you’re a puzzle enthusiast, a wine nerd, or just looking for a good hang, Sips Happen is designed to be low-key, high-fun, and totally worth showing up for—even if you’re not sipping.

Tips are welcome. Food is encouraged.

Let’s puzzle this out together.

Feature Film Table Read 🎭👨‍💻

I’m hosting a table read for my feature, CANVAS BOYS, that I’m working on developing and will need plenty of readers and/or audience members to give feedback :) please DM me if you want to read!

CANVAS BOYS

Logline: When Jamie, a woefully vanilla gay twenty-something, leaves behind rural New England to join a pretentious NYC tech company overrun with ruthless Mean Gays, he finds himself in hot water after triggering the office Alpha Gay.

Comps: MEAN GIRLS meets FIRE ISLAND

Beat Procrastination and Creative Blocks

You know that state of mind where you forget about time and space and become completely focused on whatever you’re working on? That's called the FLOW, and it feels great but can be difficult to achieve consistently on your own. Through the power of mono-tasking, rituals, body doubling, and power breaks, we’ll reach the FLOW together, and you’ll be surprised by what you’ll have gotten done at the end of the day. So how does it work? We’ll have a series of 50-minute bursts of focused, mono-tasking work. Every burst will be separated by quick 10-minute breaks. After 2 bursts, we’ll have a longer break, where we’ll share a meal (remember to bring your own lunch) and socialize before diving into the last two bursts. Switching off notifications, focusing on a single task at a time, being surrounded by people doing the same, and not keeping track of time will help you reach the FLOW. Essentially, getting days' worth of work done in just four hours. Let's get those procrastinated tasks done and beat creative blocks TOGETHER! Here is what our session will look like: 10:30 - 10:45: introduction 10:45 - 11:35: first rush 11:35 - 11:45: short break 11:45 - 12:35: second rush 12:35 - 01:05: lunch break 01:05 - 01:55: third rush 01:55 - 02:05: short break 02:05 - 02:55: last rush 02:55 - 03:10: outro You are welcome to join for just one rush or stay for the whole session; we just ask you to enter or leave the room only during breaks to prevent distraction for the other participants.

Embody Freedom: Release the “Life Contracts” that Constrain You (for BIPOC women)

Have you ever felt bound to habits, or beliefs that no longer reflect or feel aligned to who you are today? Perhaps they were influenced by family, cultural, or societal expectations that informed you that you had to be a certain way in order to belong or be accepted? These “life contracts”--the conscious or unconscious agreements we make with ourselves–often shape our behaviors, keep us stuck in outdated roles and lead to feelings of stress, self-doubt, and burnout. In this 2-hour experiential and dynamic workshop, you will reflect on how these past “life contracts” are holding you back from the life you truly crave. Whether it’s a belief about how you “should” behave, a role you feel obligated to maintain, or keep living a value that no longer aligns, it’s time renegotiate these agreements and ignite your transformation. Through embodiment &  movement practices, individual and group reflection, and committing to a new “life contract” moving forward, you’ll: • Reflect on internal life contracts that no longer work • Discover the origins of external expectations  • Release any beliefs, emotions, thoughts or values out of alignment • Develop new life contracts that align and light you up! Please note: This event is dedicated for individuals who identify as BIPOC women.

Service Design Book Club

Calling all designers and folks curious about design thinking, join us for the first service design book club meeting at Groundfloor!

The Service Design Book Club has been running for a few months, and we thought it would be a fun chance to bring that experience to Groundfloor as we’re starting a new book in August.

Not sure what Service Design is?
Service Design is the interdisciplinary practice of using research to make a system or service work better. Service designers consider the employee, customer, and stakeholder experience to deliver cohesive service-oriented solutions. These concepts can apply to anyone, whether or not you consider yourself a designer!

How does the Service Design Book Club Work?
We tackle design or business books over the course of 2-3 months in a way that’s sustainable and supportive for busy professionals. Every month we meet up to discuss how these concepts apply to our work life, learning from each other along the way!

What are we reading?
We’ll be tackling the first 5 chapters of Mapping Experiences by James Kalbach. There’s a ton of images and diagrams, so it’s less intimidating than it sounds!

We hope to see you there!

We’ll gather for our usual vino-filled mixer with just a splash of wine wisdom, followed by introductions and the stories behind members’ wine selections.

* Nervous about presenting? Don’t be – it’s low pressure and we truly want to get to know you contribution. – just a quick chat about why you picked your bottle (1-2 mins max). Pro tip: if you’re feeling shy about describing your wine, the Vivino app can save the day if you're winging it!

As always, we’ll have a spread of Italian-inspired bites so good they’ll make Nonna weep (in a good way). It’s a night of pours and poorly pronounced Italian—with just enough wine wisdom to feel molto cultured. Casual, social, and deliciously educational—just how we like it. Salute! 🍷🇮🇹🍝

Note: All members and their guests are warmly invited to attend Wine Club events; however, all attendees must be 21+.

Creative Arts & Tea Bar

Join us for an afternoon of resilience and connection. This gathering offers a nurturing space to express ourselves through various artistic mediums while exploring teas that complement your mood and creative journey.

We'll provide an assortment of art supplies including:
* Pencils and ink markers for sketching and drawing
* Beautiful mandala coloring pages for mindful creation
* Materials for crafting friendship bracelets
* Scrapbooking supplies for creating cards.
* Acrylic and watercolor paints

This is an opportunity to create images and artwork that reflect the courage we demonstrate in our daily lives and the strength we share with each other. Through art, we can express the small acts of bravery that shape our everyday experiences - from facing challenges at work to showing up for loved ones, from trying new things to standing up for what matters to us.

Our mood-inspired tea bar will feature varieties to match whatever you are feeling: calming chamomile and lavender for moments of reflection energizing green tea for creative bursts, grounding roobios, and dandelion root for staying present, and uplifting ginger lemon elixir for celebration. Select teas that align with your current state of mind of feeling you'd like to cultivate while creating - with the option to brew your own blends as well.

All skill levels welcome. While we'll have various art supplies available, please feel free to bring any personal craft projects you're currently working on.

This is a judgement-free space to express yourself, connect with others, and celebrate our shared journey of resilience.

Over Beers Club: Meeting #4

Huge thanks to everyone who attended our 3rd meeting. Because our discussion was so rich, and because a couple of you who suggested the content that sparked some great conversation had to miss out, we've decided to run our "homework" list for session #3 again in our fourth session.

Please join us for our next session! We will discuss the following "Over Beers..."

--

The Three Pillars of Over Beers Club:

Beer is unparalleled:
It is by far the most popular alcoholic beverage on the planet. No other beverage—tea, wine, spirits, or coffee—offers the sheer range of flavors, aromas, textures, and appearances that beer does. With the proper context, every beer you taste can be a testament to the infinite possibilities of brewing.

Beer creates space for connection:
No matter how revelatory a beer may be, its most important function is as a venue for social interaction.

The best way to get to know someone is to get them talking about what they love:
The things we watch, read, and listen to reveal who we are. Conversations about the things that inspire us deepen connections and create a richer community.

How It Works:

Each session begins with a guided tasting, during which every member of the group is served the same beer. Together, we delve into the sample's aroma, flavor, and texture, as well as the process and ingredients that go into making it taste the way it does.

Next, every member shares a recommended thing to watch, read, or listen to with the group. This could be an excerpt from a book, a Substack post, a film, an album, a podcast—anything that sparks thought, joy, and inspiration. After each member has presented, the group votes on one thing to read, one thing to watch, and one thing to listen to ahead of the next meeting.

When the group reconvenes, discussions begin "over beers" with reflections on the previous meeting’s recommendations before we proceed to the day's tasting sessions and the presentation of new recommendations.

Why You Should Join:

Over Beers is about building a community where great beer, conversation, and people intersect. In challenging times, it's fortifying to linger on what inspires us. By sharing those things with others, we will create a space for curiosity and camaraderie. You will leave each meeting a more savvy beer drinker, equipped with new perspectives, some new compelling work to explore, and hopefully, some new friends.

SHIFT: Buy now!

Welcome to Shift! This is a space where we explore books, podcasts, and ideas that can create small but meaningful shifts in our lives.

For July, let's watch and discuss Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy, a thought-provoking documentary on Netflix. We’ll also take a few moments to check in on how things are going with your accountability groups.

Looking ahead, our August read will be Why We Sleep, and later this year we'll be discussing How to Know a Person. Be sure to place holds on both books now as the wait time can be long.

Conflict Resolution Workshop

Conflict can induce anxiety, anger, and confusion. Yet, conflict is unavoidable in building authentic relationships and high functioning teams. Whether conflict is ultimately destructive or constructive depends on our ability to navigate the process of resolution.

Effective conflict resolution comprises a set of skills. Many of us were never taught these skills and therefore default to patterns like avoidance, dominance, and blame.

The good news is that like all skills, conflict resolution can be learned. In this workshop, we will introduce the mindset, processes, and tools needed to effectively handle conflict. You will come out better understanding why conflict occurs, how to find common ground, and how to come up with win-win solutions that work for everyone.

This workshop will be led by member Shu Liu, who has been teaching Nonviolent Communication (NVC) for the past 5 years.

It is open to all GroundFloor members who are willing to adopt a growth mindset towards communication and relating.

Please bring:
1. A conflict you're struggling with
2. Something to write on (can be digital)
3. A willingness to stretch towards vulnerability

Reiki Deep Relaxation Sessions

Attunements from North Coast Reiki are a fully immersive experience focusing on whole body and central nervous system relaxation. Amberlyn Simpson is a reiki master serving the Bay Area since 2022. She found real body and trauma healing through reiki and considers it a calling to share this powerful form of healing with others.

Our lives are full of stressors and ailments that can leave us disassociated from our bodies. Reiki attunements call us back to full integration and open us up to the body's power to heal itself. Reiki energy healing can address trauma, grief, stress, illness, or injury. Italso serves as an energy realignment through a deep body meditation.

Reiki sessions begin with a conversation about your intent or focus for the session. On a massage table with fresh blankets and eye masks provided, you will experience full immersion through a candle lit atmosphere of ocean sounds, driftwood incense, and singing bowls.

Sessions can be hands-off or hands-on depending upon your consent. Booked sessions are confirmed through the North Coast Reiki website and include discounted pricing of $40 per half hour and $80 per full hour session.

Founders Club: Sunday Coffee Chat

"Our Founders Club Sunday Coffee Meetup is focussed on accountability and sharing challenges! All are welcome, from current founders to anyone curious about entrepreneurship! We meet every Sunday to give quick updates on our projects, progress, and struggles, then dive into brainstorming solutions together and general catchups. We like to say it's like a little dose of ‘group startup therapy’ every week! Come hang out, enjoy free snacks, and support your fellow founders. Feel free to message Vicki Powell with any snack requests :) See you on Sunday!

Board Game Club: Blood on the Clocktower

First Tuesdays Board Game Club features Blood on the Clocktower: an award-winning social deduction game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception for up to fifteen daring players led by a devious storyteller. Each month we have food and drink on hand - but you're always welcome to bring your own - don't rely on us for your dinner. :)

‼️ Blood on the Clocktower can take *three* hours to run, so please don’t make other plans for your evening - your presence will be required for the entirety of the game. Pizza will be provided.
‼️ We encourage players to watch this 10 minute introduction video on the rules ahead of the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-aZP47Nm9g
‼️ Even more info & play guides: BotC website https://bloodontheclocktower.com

Each player receives either a ‘good’ or ‘evil’ token with their unique character and special ability on it. Good players share information to solve the mystery whilst evil players lie about who they are and what they know. The good team wins if they can piece together their knowledge, trust each other, and vote to execute the demon. The evil team wins if the demon can sow distrust, evade detection, and wipe out the village.

Being dead doesn’t remove you from the game, you can still discuss with fellow players, win (or lose!) with your team, and have one final ‘ghost’ vote to use before the end of the game. Sometimes it’s actually useful to be dead rather than alive!

Mind Jam

Mind Jam is a monthly gathering where curious people riff on important questions, challenge assumptions, and sharpen each other’s thinking.
Not a panel. Not a lecture. Not a debate.
Just a jam session — for minds.

Each month, we take on a timely or timeless question with the help of speakers and stewards who guide the conversation and draw out ideas that might otherwise get lost. Expect nuance, depth, disagreement — and the freedom to change your mind.

We’re kicking things off with:
- Can AI Be Conscious?
- Is consciousness just complexity?
- Could machines ever really feel?
- And even if not — should we treat them as if they could?

📄 This summary sheet is where we’re tracking a loose outline of the conversation: bit.ly/46U9PZh. It’s not a script, but a guide to help us build from common ground.

Whether you want to speak, moderate, or just vibe with the conversation, fill out the form to share your take, recommend a reading, podcast, or video, and help us build something worth coming back to.

Mindful AI Discussion Group

The Age of AI is here.
// Cue cinematic sci-fi music, and paradoxical feelings of salvation and doom 🤯

If you've been following the latest developments, it might feel like we’re all test-driving a powerful new rocketship without being given the user manual! 🚀

As we navigate this rapidly evolving landscape, let's come together to inspire and support each other. This group is a space to explore our ponderings, experiences, hopes, fears, and practical questions around engaging with AI, particularly chatbots like ChatGPT.

Whether you're new to AI or a seasoned user, we'll focus on doing so with mindfulness, insight, and a deep connection to what makes us human.

About your host: I’m Pauline, a software developer turned somatic wellness coach. I’m currently training in AI Ethics for Mental Health, and will be offering resources to guide people in two areas: cultivating discernment in using AI (when is it helping vs. hindering or “hallucinating”?) and using AI to support self-empathy, emotional awareness, and personal growth.

Entering the Cave of Pythia: a dreamwork workshop

This is a space to explore the wild creativity of the dreamscape - entering the dream cave to explore our mysteries.

Pythia, so the story goes, is the priestess caretaker of Pythos, the serpent who lives at the center of the Earth. From the cave’s vapors the priestess receives oracular messages. So too is the dreamscape a space for entering the numinous dark of the psyche’s caves to receive instruction. Images and sensations found in dreams provide a universal language that spans culture, time, place, and even constructs of reality. Through speaking the language of the dream realm, one builds connection to self, soul and spirit that brings belonging and authenticity.

The dream is the mytho-poetic language that underlies our waking reality. The liminal language of dream can help to re-write and re-imagine our stories and imagine new realities.

In this dream workshop, you’ll receive tools for working with dreams and a safe and intimate space in community to share dreams through dialogue, art and somatic movement. We'll explore dreams through creativity and conversation. Bring a dream that intrigues, baffles or bores you, and a journal to record dream notes and interpretations. Wear comfy clothes to explore gentle movement and somatic practice.

Ritual Club

First Monday of every month

6:30-8:30pm

Cultivating connection, depth and sacred space through community ritual.

In our modern, hyper-independent world, we've lost sight of the crucial role that community witnessing and processing play in our overall sense of well-being and connectedness. Ritual is a sacred container where we come together to embrace the fullness of our human experience, cultivate authentic presence, and support each other's journey of self-discovery and transformation.

Each monthly gathering explores a specific theme related to personal growth, emotional healing, and spiritual awakening. Through a structured process of guided meditation, reflective prompts, and small group sharing, we create a safe, nurturing container for deep inner work and soul-nourishing connection.

Some of the core focus areas we explore include:

Navigating life's challenges and transitions with grace and resilience

Cultivating self-compassion, acceptance, and loving-kindness

Reconnecting with our inner wisdom, intuition, and authentic voice

Healing past wounds, ancestral patterns, traumas, and limiting beliefs

Awakening to our soul's purpose and unique gifts

Embodying mindfulness, presence, and conscious awareness

Fostering meaningful connections and a sense of belonging

Restoring connectedness with nature

In this supportive space, we have the opportunity to be seen, heard, and held in our full humanity. Through the power of community reflection and mirroring, we gain new insights, perspectives, and resources to support our ongoing growth and transformation.

Whether you're seeking greater self-understanding, emotional resilience, or spiritual alignment, Ritual offers a sanctuary for your soul. Here, you'll find a circle of kindred spirits who honor the sacredness in all of life and celebrate the beauty, complexity, and wisdom of the human journey.

All are welcome, regardless of background or belief. Come as you are, with a willingness to show up authentically, respect others and embrace the transformative power of sacred community ritual. Let's gather together to witness, process, and support each other's unfolding with compassion, curiosity, and open hearts.

Intuitive Collage

Intuitive Collage Workshop

Join us for a soulful workshop led by Marion, an experienced mixed media artist. Many people ask her, "How do you create these images? Do you have a vision first, or do you choose the images and let them guide you?" To answer these questions, Marion has crafted an engaging offering to share her skills.

In this workshop, you will explore the art of creating from a place of intuition, rather than agenda. Marion will guide you through the basics of composition, color theory, image selection, and connecting with your inner creative flow. This workshop is designed for artists of all levels who wish to tap into their creativity and intuition, and engage in a process of self-expression. It's a wonderful way to ground, integrate life experiences, and receive insight.

Book Club: Nobody's Fool

August's book is a classic from 1993: Nobody's Fool, by Richard Russo Richard Russo's slyly funny and moving novel follows the unexpected operation of grace in a deadbeat town in upstate New York—and in the life of one of its unluckiest citizens, Sully, who has been doing the wrong thing triumphantly for fifty years. Divorced from his own wife and carrying on halfheartedly with another man's, saddled with a bum knee and friends who make enemies redundant, Sully now has one new problem to cope with: a long-estranged son who is in imminent danger of following in his father's footsteps. With its sly and uproarious humor and a heart that embraces humanity's follies as well as its triumphs, Nobody's Fool is storytelling at its most generous. Nobody's Fool was also made into a movie starring Paul Newman, Bruce Willis, Jessica Tandy, and Melody Griffith. ***** Our discussion for this book may include the following themes: - Independence vs. Connection - Fate vs. Free Will - Generational Trauma - Masculinity and Relationships Please note that this book is on the longer side, so you may want to start reading it early! And, everyone is welcome to come, regardless if you've read the book (there will be no quiz), but beware that there will likely be spoilers.
