Cannabis Support Group #14 - National Aviation Day (The Rehearsal S2:E1)

YAY CANNABIS! If you are a cannabis lover or ally then this CSG is for you. We support cannabis. We support each other on our pursuit of cannabis knowledge and on our cannabis consumption journey, wherever you are with it. You are invited to Bring Your Own Cannabis (B.Y.O.C) Offerings vary monthly. VIEW the chat for specifics.

CSG #14 - National Aviation Day (Watch Party: The Rehearsal S2:E1). When Madison saw how the plea Nathan is making for pilots and first officers to have immersive in-depth training on COMMUNICATION, she saw how this is the type of training needed in almost all, and especially cannabis, work. So in the spirit of the holiday, we'll take flight and watch an episode. On top of her regularly scheduled presentation, she'll open the floor for people to talk about their best memories of work training. What works?

General Timeline:
7pm-8pm: check-in, complimentary refreshments, seating, mingling and optional-consumption.
8pm-9:30pm: Presentation, watch The Rehearsal, and breakout groups.
9:30pm-10pm: Event Wrap Up

What’s in the Glass? You Tell Me.

The latest Anonymous wines just landed—Chardonnay, Pinot, and Cab—and they’re rumored to be sourced from some of California’s best vineyard sites. No names, no producers listed, just quietly excellent bottles at a fraction of what they should cost.

This is exactly the kind of thing we should be tasting. Blind. Together. With cheese.

In between each battle, I've got a different tasting for you, prob not blind - but something that fits into the line-up - Roster TBA.

Each pour will be paired with a curated cheese (some classic, some unexpected), and we’ll compare the Anonymous lineup against a few standout wines to see what really holds up. No pressure. Just good wine, good cheese, and the joy of judging things in the best way possible.

We'll cruise 22 miles south through killer coastal views to Torrance State Beach, then pedal back for the full round trip. Kicking off early to dodge the sun and wrap by noon, freeing up the rest of the day to relax.

If you are up for this challenge, rsvp and join our crew.

Vibe Check: Between Gigs Film & Live Soundtrack

A very special evening centered around Between Gigs, a short film and soundtrack written and performed by donSMITH.
Through striking visuals and a hauntingly beautiful score, the film explores the tension between purpose and survival, creativity and capitalism. It’s a story that will resonate with anyone who’s ever given their all to something that didn’t quite pay the bills.

Following the screening, donSMITH will perform the film’s original soundtrack live as a jazz trio, along with select tracks from the accompanying album. Come experience the music in full color—improvised, intimate, and deeply alive.

donSMITH is a multidisciplinary musician, writer and visual artist keen on telling raw, urban narratives in a vulnerable fashion.

*All event proceeds go directly to the performers*

Wear comfortable clothes with layers for warm up. Beat Procrastination and Creative Blocks

You know that state of mind where you forget about time and space and become completely focused on whatever you’re working on? That's called the FLOW, and it feels great but can be difficult to achieve consistently on your own. Through the power of mono-tasking, rituals, body doubling, and power breaks, we’ll reach the FLOW together, and you’ll be surprised by what you’ll have gotten done at the end of the day. So how does it work? We’ll have a series of 50-minute bursts of focused, mono-tasking work. Every burst will be separated by quick 10-minute breaks. After 2 bursts, we’ll have a longer break, where we’ll share a meal (remember to bring your own lunch) and socialize before diving into the last two bursts. Switching off notifications, focusing on a single task at a time, being surrounded by people doing the same, and not keeping track of time will help you reach the FLOW. Essentially, getting days' worth of work done in just four hours. Let's get those procrastinated tasks done and beat creative blocks TOGETHER! Here is what our session will look like: 10:30 - 10:45: introduction 10:45 - 11:35: first rush 11:35 - 11:45: short break 11:45 - 12:35: second rush 12:35 - 01:05: lunch break 01:05 - 01:55: third rush 01:55 - 02:05: short break 02:05 - 02:55: last rush 02:55 - 03:10: outro You are welcome to join for just one rush or stay for the whole session; we just ask you to enter or leave the room only during breaks to prevent distraction for the other participants.

Creative Arts & Tea Bar

Join us for an afternoon of resilience and connection. This gathering offers a nurturing space to express ourselves through various artistic mediums while exploring teas that complement your mood and creative journey.

We'll provide an assortment of art supplies including:
* Pencils and ink markers for sketching and drawing
* Beautiful mandala coloring pages for mindful creation
* Materials for crafting friendship bracelets
* Scrapbooking supplies for creating cards.
* Acrylic and watercolor paints

This is an opportunity to create images and artwork that reflect the courage we demonstrate in our daily lives and the strength we share with each other. Through art, we can express the small acts of bravery that shape our everyday experiences - from facing challenges at work to showing up for loved ones, from trying new things to standing up for what matters to us.

Our mood-inspired tea bar will feature varieties to match whatever you are feeling: calming chamomile and lavender for moments of reflection energizing green tea for creative bursts, grounding roobios, and dandelion root for staying present, and uplifting ginger lemon elixir for celebration. Select teas that align with your current state of mind of feeling you'd like to cultivate while creating - with the option to brew your own blends as well.

All skill levels welcome. While we'll have various art supplies available, please feel free to bring any personal craft projects you're currently working on.

This is a judgement-free space to express yourself, connect with others, and celebrate our shared journey of resilience.

What Should We Solve, Together?

A Civic Gathering at Groundfloor on What Matters Most

Join us for a dynamic community session to ask one essential question:

🗣 “What problem, if solved, would make the biggest difference in your life and community?”

Oakland is full of wisdom — and people ready to act. What’s missing is a space to listen deeply, identify the problems that matter most, and collaborate across lines to solve them.

This gathering is the first step in a broader community-led civic process. Together, we’ll:

• Surface what really matters to Oaklanders — no pre-set agenda

• Use inclusive tools (like Pol.is) to map shared priorities

• Begin co-creating solutions across neighborhoods, backgrounds, and sectors

• Prepare for follow-up meetings with media, policymakers, and city leadership

Facilitated by a local team including community organizers and civic innovation leaders, this is not a listening session — it’s a building session.

Whether you’re a resident, activist, small biz owner, journalist, policymaker, or just someone who cares — your voice belongs here.

Event hosted by Real Democracy & East Bay Civic Hub. Let’s find out what matters, and build from the ground floor.

Event is free and open to all local attendees. You don’t do not need to be a member to attend, and welcome you as a guest.

Snacks will be provided.

Heal Your Relationship to Money

This workshop is for women and people of color who:

- Think or worry about money

- Crave a healing, judgment-free space to talk openly about money—without shame

- Are eager to take control of their financial future and personal agency

What to Expect:

In this healing-centered experience, we’ll explore your personal money story and begin to untangle the fear, shame, and silence that often surround finances.

Together, we’ll:

- Build your capacity to sit with financial discomfort

- Strengthen your sense of agency and empowerment

- Move toward clarity, freedom, and flow with money

This series is guided by my training as a certified healing-centered facilitator and my lived experience: as a daughter of immigrants, a once-underpaid/overworked Oakland educator, and someone who’s learned to invest, save, and spend in ways that feel both financially abundant and emotionally healing. Most importantly, I continue to practice healing my own relationship to money—and I want to support you in doing the same.

D&D: How to Play

Learn to play Dungeons & Dragons by making a character, learning the ground rules, and even start an encounter.

D&D is a big game that can be intimidating but we’ll make this very beginner-friendly! You’ll find out why this is a favorite game for people who like to be creative, collaborate, and let dice determine outcomes for lowkey gambling.

Bring a device to pull up digital dice and materials, bring your own dice set, and/or print out a standard D&D 5e character sheet if you like to live analog.

Somatic Movement Workshop with Stephanie Parker

Nia is a low-impact, low-pressure movement practice rooted in ancient forms of energetic healing and release including Tai Chi, Yoga, and African dance. Whether you’re an experienced mover or beginner, or need some modifications, this somatically attuned workshop is for you. With Nia, we move at the speed of the nervous system, devoting ample time to warm-up, cool-down & stretching. We also learn somatic nervous system regulation techniques you can take home to add to your own practice. Nia with Stephanie will leave you feeling refreshed, relaxed, and mentally clear. Stephanie Parker (she/her) is a Black Queer somatic practitioner and licensed Nia instructor based in Oakland, California. She is a graduate of Stanford University (B.A., M.A.), and worked at Google for 9 years before being called to the path of ancestral healing. Stephanie creates safe, affirming, sacred, decolonial spaces, guiding in a nonhierarchical way that allows collective wisdom to emerge from the group. Stephanie's journey as a healer began with her own body’s divine act of refusal in the form of severe upper body-wide nerve pain, a condition that led her to step away from both her social justice organizing work and decade-long career in the tech industry. Stephanie’s search for relief led her to her first Nia Dance class, where she experienced the physical release of trapped emotions, loving intergenerational community, and the embodied sensation of feeling both freedom and safety at the same time. It was this spirit-led encounter that served as a catalyst for her decision to walk in her purpose. You can learn more about Stephanie and her offerings on her website, and on Instagram at @catchlight27.

Defeat Your Arch Nemesis - How To Get Out Of Your Own Way

“The only thing in your way is you.” You’ve probably heard that saying, but thought to yourself “Okay, but how?"

Leadership Coach Michael Tertes starts by calling the part of us that’s in our way our Arch Nemesis a.k.a. saboteur, gremlin, head bully, negative mind chatter etc. When our Arch Nemesis gets to run the show it can influence every aspect of our lives. It eats at our confidence, keeps us stuck, frustrated and often confused. Bottom line, it impacts our ability to fully express ourselves, find fulfillment and have the impact we’re here to have.

During this participatory and powerful workshop Michael will teach you how to “get out of your own way” by identifying the specific, sneaky strategies and tactics your Arch Nemesis uses against you. From there, you'll learn Michael’s five most powerful moves to defeat your Arch Nemesis; allowing you to more freely, powerfully and consistently move towards the life, career or relationships you truly desire.

Board Game Club: Blood on the Clocktower

First Tuesdays Board Game Club features Blood on the Clocktower: an award-winning social deduction game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception for up to fifteen daring players led by a devious storyteller. Each month we have food and drink on hand - but you're always welcome to bring your own - don't rely on us for your dinner. :)

‼️ Blood on the Clocktower can take *three* hours to run, so please don’t make other plans for your evening - your presence will be required for the entirety of the game. Pizza will be provided.
‼️ We encourage players to watch this 10 minute introduction video on the rules ahead of the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-aZP47Nm9g
‼️ Even more info & play guides: BotC website https://bloodontheclocktower.com

Each player receives either a ‘good’ or ‘evil’ token with their unique character and special ability on it. Good players share information to solve the mystery whilst evil players lie about who they are and what they know. The good team wins if they can piece together their knowledge, trust each other, and vote to execute the demon. The evil team wins if the demon can sow distrust, evade detection, and wipe out the village.

Being dead doesn’t remove you from the game, you can still discuss with fellow players, win (or lose!) with your team, and have one final ‘ghost’ vote to use before the end of the game. Sometimes it’s actually useful to be dead rather than alive!

Book Club: Nobody's Fool

August's book is a classic from 1993: Nobody's Fool, by Richard Russo Richard Russo's slyly funny and moving novel follows the unexpected operation of grace in a deadbeat town in upstate New York—and in the life of one of its unluckiest citizens, Sully, who has been doing the wrong thing triumphantly for fifty years. Divorced from his own wife and carrying on halfheartedly with another man's, saddled with a bum knee and friends who make enemies redundant, Sully now has one new problem to cope with: a long-estranged son who is in imminent danger of following in his father's footsteps. With its sly and uproarious humor and a heart that embraces humanity's follies as well as its triumphs, Nobody's Fool is storytelling at its most generous. Nobody's Fool was also made into a movie starring Paul Newman, Bruce Willis, Jessica Tandy, and Melody Griffith. ***** Our discussion for this book may include the following themes: - Independence vs. Connection - Fate vs. Free Will - Generational Trauma - Masculinity and Relationships Please note that this book is on the longer side, so you may want to start reading it early! And, everyone is welcome to come, regardless if you've read the book (there will be no quiz), but beware that there will likely be spoilers.

Intuitive Collage

Intuitive Collage Workshop

Join us for a soulful workshop led by Marion, an experienced mixed media artist. Many people ask her, "How do you create these images? Do you have a vision first, or do you choose the images and let them guide you?" To answer these questions, Marion has crafted an engaging offering to share her skills.

In this workshop, you will explore the art of creating from a place of intuition, rather than agenda. Marion will guide you through the basics of composition, color theory, image selection, and connecting with your inner creative flow. This workshop is designed for artists of all levels who wish to tap into their creativity and intuition, and engage in a process of self-expression. It's a wonderful way to ground, integrate life experiences, and receive insight.

What to Expect:

The workshop will begin with a 10-minute meditation and a movement exercise to awaken creative energy, followed by brief introductions. Marion will then talk about color theory, balance, and composition to help guide you in creating your collage.

You will have access to a selection of collage materials and paints. Please bring images of your liking and small scissors to complement and create your artwork. Marion will offer guidance throughout the process.

At the end, we will come together in a circle to share our creations. While the aesthetic aspects of the artwork will be acknowledged, the focus of our sharing will be on the meaning and emotional resonance behind each piece. This is a space for vulnerability, connection, and non-judgment, where your unique creative expression is valued above all.

Limited to 12 participants—please register early to reserve your spot. Venmo donation of up to $25 is appreciated to cover the time, energy and supplies: @RutaSegal (Venmo). Thank you! For non-members, the contribution is $35.

This is an opportunity not only to learn new mixed-media techniques, but also to connect with your inner self, tune into your intuition, and make new friends. Let the art of collage to reveal new pathways of seeing and being.

We look forward to creating with you!

Community Lunch

Business Club (Connect + Collab)

Business Club is a monthly networking and peer mentoring opportunity for all professionals and creatives to connect, exchange ideas, and problem solve over their morning cuppa. The meetings are facilitated by Sophie Davies to ensure everyone has equal time to introduce themselves and ask for what they need. How it works: After introductions the group breaks out into smaller groups to allow everyone to share “an ask” through peer mentoring with your makeshift advisory board. “Your ask” can be a specific idea that you need feedback on or a challenge you need help with. This work-related inclusive club is for everyone who understands that while we tend to work individually, we regularly encounter the same work challenges and believe that collectively we are stronger when we support each other and figure things out together. These gatherings are limited to 20 people, so please commit to staying for the duration of the session.
