“The only thing in your way is you.” You’ve probably heard that saying, but thought to yourself “Okay, but how?"
Leadership Coach Michael Tertes starts by calling the part of us that’s in our way our Arch Nemesis a.k.a. saboteur, gremlin, head bully, negative mind chatter etc. When our Arch Nemesis gets to run the show it can influence every aspect of our lives. It eats at our confidence, keeps us stuck, frustrated and often confused. Bottom line, it impacts our ability to fully express ourselves, find fulfillment and have the impact we’re here to have.
During this participatory and powerful workshop Michael will teach you how to “get out of your own way” by identifying the specific, sneaky strategies and tactics your Arch Nemesis uses against you. From there, you'll learn Michael’s five most powerful moves to defeat your Arch Nemesis; allowing you to more freely, powerfully and consistently move towards the life, career or relationships you truly desire.

We meet to collaboratively explore ideas from art to science to philosophy to learn about the topic and each other.
Our intent is to create a free, inclusive, and friendly space for connection and community based on ideas, in an environment that prioritizes listening and openness to a wide range of perspectives.
How does it work?
We choose a topic, share optional resources (video/articles/podcasts, etc.) and discussion questions in advance to establish a shared context, and then have a lightly moderated discussion along with potluck-style drinks and snacks. Expect some time to socialize before and after the official discussion.

Join us for an uplifting evening of heartfelt conversation, mindful creativity, and meaningful connection on women’s mental health.
“Pause & Create” is a restorative gathering for women seeking pause and presence in the midst of modern-day overwhelm. We’ll begin with a fireside chat on women’s mental health, exploring the pressures we carry, the stories we’re rewriting, and the practices that help us feel more whole.
After the conversation, we’ll move into a calming origami activity—folding paper flowers, cranes, boxes, etc. as a way to slow down and tap into our creativity. The act of folding becomes a gentle pause, leaving you with a handmade creation to take home as a symbol of your care and presence.
We’ll end with a community reflection and casual social gathering.
All materials and snacks & refreshments will be provided.
Agenda
6:00 - 6:30pm: Arrival and Introductions
6:30 - 7:10pm: Mental Health Fireside Chat
7:10 - 7:55pm: Origami Activity
7:55 - 8:00pm: Closing Circle
8:00 - 8:30pm: Informal Gathering
Hosted by SF Women’s Health Club – building joyful spaces where women feel heard, supported, and inspired toward lifelong wellness.

September's book club discussion will be Demon Copperhead.
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Barbara Kingsolver's book is a brilliant novel that enthralls, compels, and captures the heart as it evokes a young hero’s unforgettable journey to maturity.
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses. Through all of it, he reckons with his own invisibility in a popular culture where even the superheroes have abandoned rural people in favor of cities.
Many generations ago, Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield from his experience as a survivor of institutional poverty and its damages to children in his society. Those problems have yet to be solved in ours. Dickens is not a prerequisite for readers of this novel, but he provided its inspiration. In transposing a Victorian epic novel to the contemporary American South, Barbara Kingsolver enlists Dickens’ anger and compassion, and above all, his faith in the transformative powers of a good story. Demon Copperhead speaks for a new generation of lost boys, and all those born into beautiful, cursed places they can’t imagine leaving behind.
*********
As usual, come prepared to talk about the book. Ideally, it would be good to finish it, but we won't kick you out if you just want to come and hang with us and talk about topics from the book, like:
- Systemic poverty and class barriers
- Addiction and the opioid crisis
- Resilience and human dignity
